Will Ferrari carry out their threat to quit F1 if a budget cap is put in place?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8044860.stm

It's being reported that Ferrari have issued an ultimatum to the FIA saying that they will quit F1 if plans to put a 拢40m budget cap in place are carried out.

Do you think they'll actually do it?|||Definitely. Ferrari have dominated F1 for many years now purely because they have the financial strength and stability to put more money in than any other teams can (apart from maybe McLaren). If they are no longer allowed to buy success in such a way then the chances are they won't remain a dominant force and will quit the sport.|||I hope so|||No. They are just reacting to some ridiculous proposal and rightly so.

Neither Max or Bernie are stupid enough to let them leave. They will have to be a more realistic amount of money proposed and they all know that. -I hope!|||i think it's a shame really such a legendarily team,

stupid FIA!|||We can only hope they carry through on it and Leave.|||Ferrari said :-

" The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA鈥檚 endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula One are the priorities for the future. If these indispensable principles are not respected and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula One World Championship."

I take this to mean that Ferrari disagree with the 2 tier systen - not the budget cap - which it seems to reluctantly agree with.

I agree with Ferrari - a 2 tier system isn't worth taking part in, and from my own point of view - is not worth watching.|||I believe they will quit F1 if a budget cap of 拢40m did happen. It would be a great shame as the 2007 and 2008 seasons where Ferrari and Mclaren battled each other for the WDC was one of the two best seasons I have seen over the past few years.|||Yes, absolutly. There is even a small chance that we would not see them on the grid, even if the budget and 2 tier system is not brought in. They wont be the first team to take a break from F1 - radical idea i know.

Toyota have now jumpe on the band wagon - however this could be seen as an excuse, and they just wont out of the sport all together.

They Just have...look below.

Ferrari will leave, and should they do so, this will then be the time for Max and Bernie to hand over power. FOTA need more power and they need to keep their faces and comments from the papers/broadsheets and allow a relationship between FOTA and the FIA to build the sport in an appropriate manner placed on the recent evidence from the research.|||if the FIA doesnt change anything then yes they will because they dont know how to make a fast car with not much money and theyre wooses|||Ferrari is F1! Only team to have contested the very 1st GP at 1950 Silverstone|||Ferrari are now taking the FIA through the French courts as the agreement Ferrari race under (different to all other teams) states that they must be consulted on technical rule changes.|||I hope not. I am a Mclaren fan, but F1 without Ferrari just wouldn't be F1. F1 would be ruined without Ferrari. They have been there since the beginning, won more titles (I think) than any other team, and have the largest fanbase across many countries. They are the glamour team of F1 and without them F1 would lose its attraction and allure for many people. Max is going to ruin F1 if he gets his way and turn it into something indistinguishable from GP2 or the A1GP series. If Ferrari quit I won't watch F1 anymore. Apart from anything else without Ferrari - Mclaren's main adversary - who am I gonna love to hate if Ferrari aren't there! F1 without Ferrari would be like the Premier League without Man Utd. Love Man Utd or hate them English football would not be the same without them. And the same goes for F1 without Ferrari. It cannot be allowed to happen!
